Built Your Kit + Beauty Drive
Sunday Sept. 6 | 1 - 5pm
SALON | 224 Roebling St.
Hosted by: SALON, Laramie Glen, Bunny, and Jennifer Covington
Building a professional hair and makeup kit takes time - and can be an expensive roadblock to entering the industry. We are opening the doors to SALON for professional hair and makeup artists to donate extra products and tools to junior artists in to help build out their kits. Artists who work in film/tv, fashion, red carpet, and theater are all welcome as our kits are uniquely built for each industry and we rarely get a chance to be in one room.
Come hang, meet other artists, talk shop, make connections, and grow your community.
Working makeup artists and hairstylists: donate new or used products and tools you’re no longer reaching for. If you can’t make the day but still want to donate, SALON is accepting donations Aug 31-Sept 6. Email or DM us to coordinate!
Junior artists: bring an empty bag and leave with products to build your kit.
If you're building your career, come find products for your kit, meet fellow artists, and connect with people who've been exactly where you are.
BRANDS: In addition to any product and tools donations, we’d love for you to sponsor a handful of one-way Uber codes so that artists and friends who can’t make it to the event can messenger their donations to the drive.
All extra products and tools will be donated to community partners supporting local LGBTQIA+ youth.
Meet our Hosts!
Bunny: Bunny loves curls, waves, and cutting shapes that enhance her clients’ natural texture and accentuate their individual features. Her attention to detail, tones, and maintaining the integrity of clients’ hair has gained her a reputation working with blondes, double process, and painting hair. She intentionally and intuitively flows from razor, to scissors and hand styling. Clients walk away with an elevated version of air dried locks.
She trained as a hairstylist and colorist in California, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the world around her. Bunny works closely with clients to achieve a desired color, bringing out an aura and identity that can enhance the expression of who they really are. A cut and color session can take a few hours and she creates a welcoming and comfortable environment where all clients can be at home and feel taken care of.
Laramie: Laramie Glen has been working in NYC for the past 14 years, starting retail at a Bobbi Brown counter in a mall in New Jersey then moved to New York to begin freelancing. Laramie works primarily in editorial, commercial, advertising and occasional red carpet/celebrity. They love doing makeup that is really clean and natural skin, with a touch of edginess or rebelliousness to it - bringing in individuality through color, texture, or shape. In 2015, they began volunteering and working with a few organizations in NYC to organize groups of hair stylists and makeup artists to volunteer their glam services, giving back to the city’s community. A couple years later began, “Artists Making a Difference” withJaleesa Jaikaran and a few times a year hosting events for LGBTQ+ communities, youths experiencing being unhoused, and a few other groups. With "Artists Making a Difference," the belief is that artists can raise awareness, inspire action, create a sense of community and support causes we believe in. Deeply rooted in the concept of giving back and with every level of success one achieves, you can lift those around you and give back even more.
